Figure 8’s – with front faces
Aim of the drill
This drill is intended to improve puck control and “feel” of the puck while on the front of your stick. It also helps to improve the natural “dummy” movement
Equipment required
Puck and stick
Explanation
The puck is moved about in a figure 8 pattern in front of the body as shown, using only the front faces of the stick
Points to remember
- Keep hips and bum flat on the tiles and shoulders up to give the playing arm room to manauvre under the shoulders and practice good body position
- The drill may be done with large figure 8’s, dropping the shoulders to the tiles and half-turning, or small figure 8’s as shown
- Try to keep the puck smoothly on the stick all the time
Helpful hint
Make sure you flex your wrist through it’s greatest range of movement especially at the corners of the drill to ensure good puck control through the exercise
